John Baron, R.E.T.
John Baron is a registered engineering technologist who graduated in Petroleum Engineering Technology from SAIT Polytechnic in 1971. After graduation, John started working in the oil and gas industry for Shell Canada Limited in materials and corrosion engineering and has worked his entire career in this area. While at Shell Canada, John became the corporate Head Technical Specialist, Non-metallics and focused on all non-metallic materials including plastic coatings, composite pipe, thermoplastic pipe, elastomers, thermal insulation and refractory for applications in the upstream oil and gas production business as well as the downstream refinery business. John has remained active in various industry activities through NACE International and Canadian Standards Association (CSA) pipeline code and has made many presentations to industry. John also provides industry training on plastic pipeline systems through CSA for their oil and gas pipeline workshops. John is a past Chairman of NACE, Calgary Section and NACE, Northern Area. John is the founding and current Chairman of the CSA Plastics Pipe Work Group for CSA Z662, the oil and gas pipeline code of Canada. John chose to retire from Shell in 2000, following 29 years and immediately began working for a materials and corrosion engineering consulting firm, focusing on non-metallic materials applications. In 2003, John formed and incorporated J. Baron Project Services Inc, which he continues to operate.
In total John has over thirty-six years of experience working in corrosion and non-metallic materials. He has worked on projects located in Canada, USA, UK, Sultanate of Oman, Russian Federation, and Netherlands.
