CO2 Corrosion

Carbon dioxide (CO2) corrosion is a well-known corrosion mechanism that can affect many industries. Carbon dioxide dissolved in water can form carbonic acid leading to pitting or general corrosion of carbon steel. Effective corrosion control is required through understanding of the interrelationship between fluid compositions (water chemistry/partial pressure of acid gases), temperature, pressure, fluid velocity, phase separation as well as materials of construction.

Ammonite works in the development of corrosion control programs by providing recommendations on material selection, chemical treatment, inspection and corrosion monitoring methods to help industries design and maintain facilities in a safe and efficient manner.

Technical capacity includes: system assessment to identify all possible threats, computer modeling to identify potential corrosion rates and locations, development of mitigation methods including proper material selection, coatings, chemical treatment, inspection, and corrosion monitoring.

Type of projects Ammonite Completed:

→Material selection for the oil and gas processing facilities
→Corrosion monitoring of gas pipeline
→Tubing/Casing material review of thermal (SAGD) producer wells
→Well integrity manual for CO2 enhanced oil recovery wells
→Various failure analysis
