12 "Materials and Corrosion Challenges on a Floating Production Storage Offloading (FPSO) Vessel", A.I. (Sandy) Williamson, P.Eng., NACE Northern Area Conference , February 2004, Victoria, B.C.
ABSTRACT
There are numerous challenges in preserving the integrity of the facilities and equipment onboard a FPSO. Many of these challenges arise because of the harsh marine conditions that the equipment is exposed to, however there are additional logistical problems that arise due to the remote access to the FPSO. Furthermore, an FPSO is normally expected to stay on station for the productive life of the oil or gas field without dry-docking for inspection, maintenance or modifications. Examples of materials design, protective coatings and insulation design, chemical treatment programs, and integrity management programs are used to highlight the challenges.
